EDUCATION

2008

HIGH SCHOOL CERTIFICATE  | TRINITY GRAMMAR SCHOOL

2009 - 2010

DIPLOMA OF DESIGN: VISUAL MEDIA  |  INSEARCH

This course encouraged experimentation and exploration of an array of mediums, with classes on illustration, digital media,

photography and model making. Students were encouraged to think uniquely, work collaboratively and were required to submit extensive

portfolios with every project. It was here were I learnt most of my fundamentals in layout and instigated on my

love/hate relationship with all things type.

2011 - 2014

BACHELOR OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION  | UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, SYDNEY

Students were required to work on multiple projects at once, use our initiative to present unique ideas from a standard brief and execute these ideas to a professional standard. Most valuable skills learnt were how to think creatively and then present these ideas visually in an engaging way. Was trained to be constantly thinking, experimenting and planning out concepts but encouraged to go and execute.

Took this opportunity to explore multiple disciplines, taking up as many differing classes in film and editing, exhibition design, sustainable design and French (because what’s harder than learning a language?). Also studied for one semester at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore where I explored film history, creative writing, traditional photography methods

 and design innovation.

FOUNDATION JOBS

2007 - 2008

SOUTH HURSTVILLE MCDONALDS  | TEAM MEMBER & MCAFE

The job that gave me my foundation in the workforce. A great environment for enforcing ideals of hygiene, customer service, multi-tasking, following instructions and working as part of a large team.

2008 - 2010

JUICE HUT CRONULLA  | TEAM MEMBER

Worked as part of a small team in this fast paced cafe in a busy mall. Responsibilities included stocktaking, counting the tills and opening and closing the store.

2009 - 2011

PRIME LAWYERS  |  OFFICE CLERK

Primarily concerned with archiving and filing. Involved in organising closed files and converting documents to digital format. Work also included answering phone calls, dealing with walk-ins and general office admin. Also had the opportunity to re-vitalise the companies branding creating a newer image whilst maintaining the integrity of the existing brand. Really learnt the basics of office politics and to work swiftly, efficiently and accurately as there was no room for errors.

CREATIVE ROLES

2012

NORTH SYDNEY BOYS HIGH SCHOOL  |  YEARBOOK DESIGNER

In charge of designing the school’s yearbook, which included work with graphics, typography, illustration and photography. Was responsible for the whole publication, it’s art direction and getting it print ready. This also included the opportunity to run a yearbook group with students, teaching them how to operate Photoshop, InDesign and the basics of putting together spreads and typographic detailing. Learnt how to navigate and sell an idea to a hierarchal chain of command where I never got face time with the person in charge.

2010 - 2014

BIZCORP MORTGAGE SOLUTIONS  |  DESIGNER AND TECH SUPPORT

Hired to create in house graphic materials working on building websites, motion graphic videos, presentations, forms, brochures and information booklets to present to clients. Role became much more expansive based on my creative input, becoming responsible for the installation and implementation of collaboration, marketing and CRM software. Also consulted and provided creative direction on presentation technique and sales pitches. Had to learn to work practically under the limitations of a small business.

2014 - current

D&D LETTERPRESS  |  HEAD DESIGNER & PROJECT MANAGER

Currently working as a letterpress printer and designer. Main design work is for wedding and business stationery, with primary skills in typography, layout, hand generated type and branding. Also learnt how to manually set type and print on a Chandler & Price Platen Press and Heidelberg Windmill. The job is very collaborative and was entrusted in designing and producing company paraphernalia including the companies branding, website, sample swatch book and a line of sellable stationery.

Responsible for all stages of a project from client meetings, designing, pre-press, printing and delivery of the final product. I make sure that the multiple projects that are running simultaneously are on track and foresee any complications before they happen. My favourite role is being the in studio ideas guy, who is known to always be tinkering on new product ideas, trying new innovative ways to use this old technology and just always be available to assist interns or write emails to the odd overly difficult brides.
